Eric Rafferty, Grampian Health Branch’s Welfare Officer reports that it has been another busy year. The number of members applying for early retirement has increased and it is very hard to get a high-tier pension. Of the SPPA cases dealt with during 2009-2010 only 6 received the higher-tier pension with 18 receiving the lower tier. UNISON applied for 5 cases to be reviewed and was successful in 4 cases with 1 going for appeal.
UNISON Grampian Health represented 15 members at DWP appeals and was successful with 14 cases.
During 2010/11 Eric hopes to have the opportunity to hold a half day seminar on ‘Dealing with Benefits’ and ‘Guiding members through Early Retirement Stages.
Contact Eric on 01224 620624 for advice on welfare matters.
Welfare Walk the Glen 2010
UNISON Welfare Centenary Sponsored Walk and ‘Family Fun Day’ is to be held on Sunday 23 May 2010 at Pittencrieff Park, Dunfermline.
The Branch will be donating a raffle prize—there will be a variety of stalls and events to enjoy. Members are urged to either take part in the walk or go along and enjoy the fun to support UNISON’s own charity for members.
Our own Branch Secretary, Bettina Low, is taking part in this and will be looking for sponsors.
If you wish to take part sponsorship forms are available on the Branch website. We would urge all members to support this very worthwhile cause.
